The vision for Religious Education at Our Lady's College is based on the Brisbane Archdiocesan vision:
We aspire to educate and form students who are challenged to live the gospel of Jesus Christ and who are literate in the Catholic and broader Christian tradition so that they might participate critically and authentically in faith contexts and wider society.
The spiritual and religious development of students is divided into two distinct parts:
- Religious Education in the Classroom, and
- Sense of the Sacred and the Religious Life of the College.
Whereas Religious Education specifically focuses on teaching students about religion, the Religious Life of the College is integrated within lessons and within College life as a whole.
The Religious Life of the College includes the religious curriculum, classroom prayer, celebrations of liturgies and participation in service activities.
The philosophy of St Mary of the Cross Mackillop “we must teach more by example than by word" reflects College beliefs about a Catholic view of learning.
Our students put their faith into practice through our extensive service program, including homeless and disability outreach services and compassionate fundraising.
The College recognises that students joining our community come from a range of faith backgrounds, and our Religious Education Program acknowledges this diversity of experiences so that all students can be active members of our faith community.
A synopsis of the program is available to our community here:
